Oh My Gosh everyone! I made a silly little video for the Oscars youtube channel and it got featured on Good Morning America!!
Here is the segment i recorded off my Tivo!
I love that one of my bits is the comedic relief! Caryn Ruby: “Cause I love Ed Norton”; Ed Norton: “what?” Lol!
Here’s the full length (1 min.) submission that they liked!
See how I strategically framed the shot?
Also, I’ve got shows coming up in Chicago, Los Angeles, Pasadena & Burbank & I’m going to be a guest on SheauxTime Radio this coming Tuesday (Valentine’s day!) live at 8pm EST on rippedradionetwork.com.
Yippee!!!
ps, I’d like to thank the weather of Chicago for making this winter bearable (so far) by not dropping the temperature below freezing or laying down too much snow. Global warming? Nah, just good luck for Caryn.

Happy New Year!! 2012! This is THE year. Either we’re all gonna die (apocolypse) or it’s gonna be the BEST YEAR EVER! I’m goin’ with choice 2 because choice 1 is too depressing. Plus, the nay-sayers haven’t been right yet! Right? Right. So, onward & upward as they say. I’m excited cause I’m goin’ goin’ back back to Cali Cali. Even if just for a week, it makes me feel so warm & fuzzy inside. Which I need right now cause it’s frickin 7 DEGREES HERE IN CHICAGO!! THIS is (one of) the (main) reason(s) why I left! Anywhoo, enough nonsense, let’s get to the juicy stuff. So (of course) I’m booking a bunch of shows for my week in LA so look out for that to the right (imagine an arrow here pointing to the right). Also, the radio show is really starting to pick up some steam. We’ve got some great shows coming up this year, and remember, you can always listen to previous episodes on the website at www.blogtalkradio.com/ladyrerun. Last week on the show we had an amazing artist Buzy from NOLA who promised (on the air!) to write a theme song for our radio show! So cool! Fun interview, check it out! Also, I’m knee deep in creating some new sketches and content for my youtube channel. In the meanwhile, you can check out a silly little scene I taped with my friend Chezik Smith right here.
We’re funny. And we’re not afraid to tell you! Also, if you haven’t, follow me on twitter @carynruby & like me on facebook!

Thank you!

Wow. again. First of all, a big *shout out* to the City of Chicago. There. I said it. I can no longer continue hating on you. I won’t say you’ve *won me over* (yet) or that I *want to stay here forever* but…things have been going very well, and I have to say thank you. So, it’s the very end of 2011 and for the first time in a while, I actually took the time to look back over the past year at all of the fun things I got to do this year. And, some of the most exciting stuff I did took place here, in Chicago. Here are the highlights:
I opened for Donnell Rawlings at Zanie’s in Downtown Chicago (twice!)
I interviewed Nora Dunn at Macy’s Watertower as part of the national Fashion Night Out event
I became a regular cast member of a cable access sketch show (and we shot 4 sketches I wrote!)
I auditioned the new In Living Color for JAMIE MASADA! (the owner of the laugh factory!)
I became a radio show co-host! And even ran the show a few times myself! Thanks Lady Rerun! xo
I performed stand up all over Chicago, Los Angeles, and even in Las Vegas and San Diego
I killed it in a minute (killitinaminute.com), won the battle (laughbattle.com), was featured for a week of funny (stupidassquestions.com) and made it to the semi-finals in the funniest comic in LA contest.
And these are just the highlights! I am so grateful for this year. I’ve made a lot of new friends and fans, renewed my commitment to my craft, and have a ton of new stuff in the works already for 2012. Bring it. Happy holidays. Have a great new year celebration. Be safe & I’ll see u in 2012!
11/20/11
Wow. Life has been so busy and now we’re comin’ up on the holiday season! Has it been a year already? I’m in LA now & i’ve been havin so much fun seeing all my friends & hitting all the mics around town! My computer died (it was 7 years old!) so I got a new mac & i’m super stoked about it! (you gotta speak Cali when in Cali… but my friends said my Chicago accent came back!! Yikes!!) Now I can make more videos, so look for that soon! Tonight & tomorrow night I’m doing the Comedy Store on Sunset Blvd. which is my absolute favorite place to do comedy, and tonight i get to do a show in the original room! So, after tonight, I will have officially performed in all 3 rooms! Nice.
Then tomorrow night, I’m back in the Belly room @ 8pm. What a whirlwind trip this has been! Last night we had a really fun radio show on the Lady Rerun Radio Show (listen anytime at www.blogtalkradio.com/ladyrerun) talking about what we are thankful for, and black Friday which is coming up next week. Also, before I left Chicago I got to do some guest sets at Zanie’s Chicago (thank you Donnell Rawlings!) & tape the rye bread radio show which was a whole lot of fun and you can listen to it right now on their main page @ www.ryebreadradio.com! Thanks everyone for reading and for all your support! See u soon!
10/26/11
What’s up friends? I’ve been bookin shows like crazy & I’m so excited to be going back home (if only for a couple of weeks)! I’ve got a bunch of shows scheduled for back in LA this time so check my schedule to the right & come out and say hello! I’m doing some new shows that I’ve never done before, as well as some repeats. I’m even doing a show in a beauty salon! Get your nails done, have a cocktail, and a laugh all at the same time! Other goings on include my work with some sketch groups and the radio show with Lady Rerun. Both of which are keeping me extremely busy!
Also, my video won the week at laughbattle (yay!) and now i’m in the middle of the showcase showdown. (I just made that up, it’s not really what they are calling it). So all previous week’s winners are now competing for the title of “super-funniest sketch we’ve ever seen on laughbattle”* (*made up) and I intend to win it all! To help me, please go to www.laughbattle.com from now until Nov. 10 and vote for my Cheryl the Shower Singer sketch to win! Thank you for your support!
10/12/11
Yikes! I’ve been so busy I forgot to update everyone on my goings on! Tonight I have a show in Streamwood, IL, rockin out the suburbs of Chicago with some other funny comics! Also, my Cheryl video is on www.laughbattle.com this week battling it out to win best sketch video of the week. You can vote every hour, so why not? Also, we’ve shot 2 other sketches I wrote with my sketch group which hopefully will be edited & put on youtube soon! I can’t wait to see how they turned out! We shot my nurse Pfizer sketch where I play a school nurse and drug all the kids. It’s very uplifting as you can imagine
Also, I’ve been working on some super-secret short films to submit to festivals. More info on that later as it comes together, but it’s looking great so far! Also, I got asked to do some live sketches at a “think beyond the pink” cancer benefit later this month! I’m really excited because this group helps to educate people on alternative treatments for cancer, check them out at www.preventcanswers.org! And finally…I’m going going, back back to Cali Cali! Booking shows back in LA for November! LA friends, I can’t wait to see you!

Hi everyone! I can’t believe how lucky I’ve been lately! Well, I shouldn’t be surprised because I got TWO fortune cookies stating exactly that. Plus, I recently got to talk to a fashion psychic. I know, initially I decided to do it ironically but it turned out to be really informative and a bit emotional. OK, so that happened at Macy’s Fashion night out (fashion psychics…) my friend Lou who runs Personalities, Inc. (the DJ company) got the amazing job to run the music & entertainment for the evening in Macy’s Watertower (which is the big-deal Chicago mall). So in this event, he was supposed to interview Nora Dunn(!!) because she is starring in the play “Love Loss & What I Wore” which opens tomorrow at the Broadway Playhouse right next to the mall. Well, he decided that his male-ness wasn’t good enough for the interview about clothes and fashion (ok, good call) and invited me to “help” him with the interview…cut to 10 mins before the interview, he’s like hey, how bout you just do it yourself!! So I did! I interviewed Nora Dunn at Macy’s! Here is an action shot!

In addition, I got to shoot a scene in a film, some scenes for my sketch group, perform in a LGBTQ benefit, a comedy contest & tape my radio show! Which, by the way, you can go to the website and listen to any of the archived shows anytime you want! www.blogtalkradio.com/ladyrerun. Friday’s show was with my good friend Peter Bedard who has a web series called “Create Your Health” and it is online here: www.createyourhealth.com Go watch some episodes or read some of the fun & informative blogs! You won’t be disappointed!

Yesterday was a very fun day (it was my birthday) and I got TONS of love so thank you everyone! If you haven’t already, go to the radio website (www.blogtalkradio.com/ladyrerun) and listen to the show we taped on Thursday. We talked to Dante (comedian famous for being on Last Comic Standing, winning America’s Funniest People, performing for the most troops since Bob Hope, winner of the most B.E.T. awards among tons of other recognitions!) who also was a close friend of Lady Rerun’s father. It was a fun and poignant show. Best so far! Be sure to check it out! Tonight I’ve got a fun show in Chicago and am excited for that! So last night I woke up at like 4 am and decided NOW IS THE TIME for me to video my entry for Jimmy Fallon’s Dance Competition. I can’t decide which I want to send in, so I’m doing a contest. Please watch & comment! They’re only 45 sec. each. Here’s the first one:
and here is the second:

Thanks friends!!

So I’m about to go to Joliet to do the StarRadio Competition. That’s going to be fun, I’ve decided I no longer care if I win competitions or not (so now I’ll win, right
). And tomorrow night, on the Lady Rerun Show, we are going to talk about….me! I’ve even got some surprise comedy sets we will be playing on the air, one of which this will probably be the only time you get to hear it! The infamous set about working in a law firm…So tune in live @ 8pmPST/11pmEST or listen later as it is archived at www.blogtalkradio.com/ladyrerun. Also, Saturday I’m going to the suburbs to shoot some sketches! So excited for this they have a youtube & a website AND a weekly cable access show already! AAAANNNDDD on Monday I’ll be guest hosting my favorite open mic in Chicago, 3160 @ 3160 Clark. If you are in the area, you should definitely come out, it’s always a great time on Monday nights. Starts @9. I guess that’s it for now. Ta ta! (is that how you spell it? it dosesn’t look right) Oh well, Se la vie. (is THAT right??) I could check on the interwebs but no time right now…gotta go!
8/14/11
Yay! All this time I thought there was something wrong w/my website when it was just my computer! I really need to learn more about these computers & stuff. So life’s been super busy lately & i’m really excited about it! In the last month I’ve done comedy in San Diego & Chicago, wrote a new set (yay!!) and am set to shoot some more of my sketches very soon! I’ve posted my Las Vegas show on youtube (finally…that was from March!) and can’t wait to get back there in September. OOOH yeah!!! I am also now the *official* co-host of the Lady Rerun radio show!! We tape live every Friday night at 8pmPST/11pmEST and you can listen to the archives ANYTIME @ www.blogtalkradio.com/ladyrerun! We’ve already taped three shows that you can go listen to right now (although Lady Rerun has been doing this show for a couple of years, so you can listen to a lot more archived shows, i’m just on 3 of them
We interviewed an awesome Hip Hop artist, Cadillac Don, talked about how facebook & twitter & social networking are taking over our life and just this past Friday, we talked about pansexuality! Check it our or listen live this coming Friday nite! Got some shows coming up in Chicago, so check out the schedule to the right!
7/10/11
OK. I made a silly little video and posted it on youtube. Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/user/carynruby#p/u/4/VuzjNa1CC40
Special appearance by “Cher”!
Tonight’s the big night! I am excited (and a little nervous!) to see this film I worked on because I either made a complete ass of myself, or it’s gonna be ROLFLOL (ROFLOL?). You may or may not know this about me, but I love to dance. And I love even more to dance in either an overly dramatic fashion or completely inept. In this particular film, entitled “Ghost Humpers” I decided it was a great idea to dance on a stripper pole. What’s the opposite of sexy? This dance. Plus, I get to do an entire half hour of stand-up at the premiere! So it could either be the best night of my life…or the worst…
Wish me luck! No wait, tell me to break a leg. Well, either way, I appreciate it!!
7/3/11
Hooray! & We’re Back! Thank you to Kirk Diedrich my webmaster for fixing the kinks! Yay!! Just in time for my BIG weekend! Starting this Wednesday I have a bunch of shows & stuff coming up!! On the 6th I’m doing a show @ Jack’s on Halsted. It’s part of CLIC (Chicago Ladies of Comedy)’s open mic. I’ll be a featured comic in the show part of the evening. They like to feature lady comics before giving anyone (including boys) the chance at the mic. Ha! Then on Saturday I’m excited to be doing the Drunk Poet’s Society comedy show at the Underground Lounge (also in Chicago) and finally, Sunday the 10th is the big premiere for a comedy short i worked on. They will be showing other films and there will be two comics doing LIVE comedy one of which is moi. This will be one of the longest sets I’ve done (at once) yet! So that’s exciting! Have I mentioned, I dance around the stripper pole in the film? But I promise, you’ll be laughing, not excited
. Later this month I’ll be goin goin back back to Cali Cali. This time I’ll be in San Diego so get ready SD peeps! Also workin’ on a winter tour. This time we are talking about Florida & the south so I’m real excited for that so…stay tuned!!
6/15/11
Something is going wrong with my calendar (as u may have noticed from the lack thereof on the right)! Trying to work out the bugs (better get some spiders in here to eat them!!) In the meantime, upcoming shows are: tomorrow @ Jokes and Notes in Chicago, Monday 6/27 I’m doing the C-Word Show @ The Comedy Store Belly Room in LA. (yay!! LOVE that show!!) Going to the east coast for the 4th and will have a show either in Boston or Maine…still in the works… Las Vegas in July and that’s all for right now.
and also, it’s summer here in Chicago… Finally!
6/8/11
All this week I’m the featured comic on the website www.stupidassquestions.com! They send me intelligent questions and I answer them factually. Or not. Maybe they just send me stupid ass questions that I answer as ridiculous as I can. Either way, go to the website and check it out. There is a new question every day and I’m answering them all week!
These past few days have been one exciting surprise after the other, I got to guest host 2 open mics, headline a benefit comedy show, shoot a video and get featured answering stupidassquestions! I guess you might say Chicago is being very nice to me as of late. But I question its motives…
6/4/11
Last night was so much fun!! Got to perform sketch comedy live for the first time in a while & I LOVED it! Plus, we did one of the sketches that I wrote & we passed to round 2 of the competition, so that’s awesome! Now, back to rehearsal…Sunday is the big benefit show here in Chicago and that’s going to be fun & raise a ton of money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma society. Did I mention the sun is out? Hallelullah!! Today, Cheryl the shower singer is going to the studio for yet another interview! (she is about to BLOW UP folks! Just say u knew her when….
Going back to LA for a week & I’ll be at the Belly Room at the comedy store for one of my favorite shows! Catch me in the C-Word Show on Monday the 27th and I’ll be going to Boston next month, booking some shows there too!
5/14/11
We had a nice couple of days here in Chicago weather-wise but now it feels like winter again. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to this. How to cope? Comedy, of course! Not only am I workin’ the stand-up angle, I’m also working with a sketch group and I couldn’t be more excited! Sketch comedy is my first love…and writing & performing sketches makes me so happy! Our first performance (mini) is at the stand up show this Friday at the Underground Lounge. The producers of the show are letting our fun little sketch group try out some brand new sketches!! I can’t wait to wear the ridiculous costume I created! (that’s another thing I love about sketch that I dont’ get to do in stand up. Well I could…but it might be a little distracting!) So, look for our group, we’re gonna do live shows & video sketches. It’s called Laughisodes & we’re putting together our web presence as we speak..or as I type..or well, u get it. As it gets going, you’ll hear more about it right here. And to the right.
Oh and one more thing, I was picked to be a featured comic on the website StupidAssQuestions.com! My week is gonna be the second week in June and I get to answer some stupid ass questions! Check it out!
4/17/11
Well I’m back in Chicago & the weather totally duped me! I land and it’s warm and pleasant so I figure, awesome!, winter is over! No sooner do I say that, then it snows. In April. Poop. On the bright side, I’m looking forward to re-connecting w/all of my friends & fans here in Chi-town & doing a bunch more shows! I’ll be in Naperville next Friday & Chicago on Saturday. Aaah the life…
3/26/11
So excited to be doing the Las Vegas Comedy Show again tonight! I’ve also been booking some shows in LA & Chicago as well. Friends in Boston, look out! I’m hittin’ your city next! Look to the right for upcoming shows. They pop up & disappear as they happen & time goes on. It’s pretty neat!
3/19/11
While in Las Vegas attending to family duties, I managed to try new material at some open mics and was super lucky to get a guest spot at the Las Vegas Comedy Show Thursday night! Thank you Vegas for giving me the BEST AUDIENCE EVER! Gotta love it! I’ll be posting the set online as soon as I can get someone to help me convert from DVD (maybe one day i’ll figure this out for myself!).
This winter I taped an intro for Jason Antone & his record holders republic world record breaking show which will be airing multiple times on Grand Rapids, MI channel 25 this week. If you get that channel, check it out! I along with 246 celebrities called in or sent him tape & it will all be on the show! Here are air times: 3/21/11 @ 6:30pm, 3/18/11 @ 10:30pm, 3/15/11 @ 7:00am & 3/16/11 @ 12pm. Go Jason!
I’m working on booking more shows in Chicago, New York, and for the spring Boston! Woo hoo! Makin’ my own tour! Who’s winning?!

LA is so good to me. I’m having a great time and so excited to have “passed on” to the semi-finals at the 8th Annual Funniest Comic in LA contest! If you are reading this right away, you will notice i just deleted tonight’s show. I’m really bummed, was looking forward to doing a show at the Belly Room but I guess that’s life, show’s get cancelled from time to time. Anyway I now have TWO shows coming up on Wednesday, so that totally rocks!

Wow I haven’t even had a chance to update yet this year! Happy New Year everyone! I hope this year is great for everyone, and at least a ton better than last year! Good riddance 1010!!
So far, this winter has been so cold and snowy in Chicago and I’m proud to say I survived the blizzard!! Woo Hoo! And even prouder to say I made it out before the next one arrives!
I’m on my way back to LA for a visit and some shows and the timing couldn’t be better. I’ll be back home just in time for the 8th annual Funniest Comic in LA contest. I competed in it last year and it was so much fun and I met a ton of great people so I’m really looking forward to it again. Also I intend to score better this year. A big part of the score is audience response, so get ready to come out and laugh and scream for me! The preliminary round is on Feb. 15th at 9pm at The Varsity on Wilshire (6311 Wilshire). I’m also excited to be doing a showcase being run by a new friend I just met on the 23rd, info will be posted to the right as soon as I get details. I’ll also be doing some open mikes and shows around town so check back here frequently for details as I plan to be updating a lot more. Happy February everyone & I look forward to seeing u real soon!
